The 1940 version, called the 440 heralded a new look for the Fours; skirted fenders that added a more streamlined look and plunger rear suspension. The result was heavier machine, a smoother ride and a more modern, iconic appearance.
Painstakingly restored (including a full engine rebuild) by respected Canadian expert Paul Garratt, the attention to detail, fit and finish and performance on the road of #267 is outstanding. Photographing this 1940 Indian Four, I was struck by painstaking detail evident everywhere on the bike - and the fact that bike didn't look over-restored; it simply looks new.
The current owner acquired the machine fresh from the restoration and put just over 600 miles on the bike before prepping it for storage and display in his climate-controlled collection.
